École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales
The École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences) brings together researchers and students from all over the world with the aim of encouraging cooperation among all the disciplines of the social sciences to understand societies.
It is based in Paris, where its headquarters are located, but is part of a dense network of researchers and institutions from all over the world with which cooperation and exchanges are permanent. It is in this context that the partnership between this research institution and the Lab School Paris was established.
The institution hosts 40 research units, some of which are directly related to democracy, such as the Centre d’études sociologiques et politiques Raymond-Aron (CESPRA, Raymond-Aron Centre for Sociological and Political Studies) or the Centre d’étude des mouvements sociaux (CEMS, Centre for the Study of Social Movements) which study, among other things, the forms of politics (with a particular emphasis on representative democracy) or social movements.
The training provided at the EHESS is based on learning through research and is characterised by an interdisciplinary organisation.
The EHESS has an active policy of defending equality and fighting against discrimination. It cooperates with many actors in civil society, both in the world of associations and among artists and activists, but also in the socio-economic world thanks to the links forged by its endowment fund, because the possibility of participation and equal opportunities allow the construction of a democratic society.
